Humpback whale 'performs' for fishermen

Fishermen encounter a curious humpback whale just feet away from their boat in Canada

The Telegraph, 28 Feb 2014

Two fishermen in Canada filmed their chance encounter with a curious humpback whale, which swam under their boat and even appeared to perfom 'tricks' for them.

"Words cannot describe the sheer exhilaration of seeing such a magnificent sight. I could say it was pretty damn cool and that would be a huge under statement.

"Experiences like these make people seem insignificant amongst nature's grandest animals. My wife laughs but I sensed intelligent interaction with the humpback," said Mr Egan on his YouTube account.

"Smart whale or not, I kept the boat motor in neutral, since I figured a boat making noise below a 40 ton whale is likely safer that being in a quiet boat!

Eventually, the whale dropped back in the tidal current and the fisherment had enough room to start the motor up and move away.
