One dead, four missing in North Maluku boat accident

Authorities in Obi district in South Halmahera, North Maluku are still searching for four people missing in a boat accident, which have killed at least one, on Obi Islands waters on Friday afternoon.

 

South Halmahera police officer First Insp. Rahman Dundu said Saturday that 11 other victims survived. Rahman said the boat carried several executives of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and several doctors.

 

The group was goingt form Labuha, South Halmahera capital, to Obi, he said, adding that further detail of the incident was yet to be reported.

 

The incident was reported to local authorities by one of surviving victims Mochtar Usman, who managed to swim to Obi shores. Obi administration immediately send three boats to search the victims. (dre)
